歌詞來自故高俊明牧師1982年在獄中所寫的一首新詩”God’s Way”。
 
我求主給我一束鮮花， 但祂給我又難看又有刺的仙人掌； 我求主給我幾隻美麗的蝴蝶， 但祂給我許多又醜陋又可怕的毛毛蟲。 我震驚、我失望、我哀嘆！ 但經過了許多日子， 忽見那仙人掌盛開了許多鮮豔的花， 那些毛毛蟲也變成美麗的小蝴蝶，飄舞在春風裡。(高俊明牧師)

God’s Way
I asked the Lord for a bunch of fresh flowers
but instead he gave me an ugly cactus
with many thorns.
I asked the Lord for some beautiful butterflies
but instead he gave me many ugly
and dreadful worms.
I was threatened.
I was disappointed.
I mourned.
But after many days,
suddenly,
I saw the cactus bloomed
with many beautiful flowers,
​and those worms
became beautiful butterflies
flying in the spring wind.
God’s way is the best way.

耶和華說：我的意念非同你們的意念；我的道路非同你們的道路。天怎樣高過地，照樣，我的道路高過你們的道路；我的意念高過你們的意念。(以賽亞書 55:8-9)
